An aerodynamic unit 622 is provided for reducing drag and improving fuel efficiency of a road vehicle, typically a haulage vehicle, bus or people carrier. Unit 622 is attachable to a roof 18 of a road vehicle, so that air passes over the unit during movement of the road vehicle, and has leading and trailing ends, positionable respectively away from and near the rear end of roof 18, with a guide portion having an upper tapered surface 629 decreasing in height towards the trailing end for guiding air at an angle to the roof of the vehicle during movement of the vehicle. One or more vortex generators 634, which may each have a substantially constant height profile, protrude from guide portion 629. A flow director 638 may be provided at or near the leading end and its height may increase from the leading to the trailing end.
