The apparatus 1 include a bellcrank lever 10 to which points operating linkages of a set of railway points (not shown) can be coupled, and a vertical axle element 15 on which the lever is pivotably mounted. The axle element has a foot 20 formed such that it fits into a complementary receptacle (21 fig.3) in a rail bedplate 3 to secure against axial rotation relative to the bedplate. A bearing sleeve 30 may support the axle against hub 13. Internally threaded socket 24 may secure the foot against the bedplate as setscrew 26 is threaded into the socket and nut 38 may be threaded onto an external thread of the sleeve to retain the mechanism to the plate. Bearing eye element 45 may be used to improve the support for the axle at the interface between the plate and axle elements.
