A computing device receives a first data value from a first data collector as an input to operate a first vehicle. An additional data value is received from a remote source (415, 420), and a decision made to exclude the first data value (425). A vehicle component is controlled based on the additional data value (430, 435). The source of the additional data value may be nearby the vehicle and may be a second vehicle or infrastructure such as a roadside unit. Decision 425 to exclude the first data may be made based on determining that the data value is outside of a predetermined range, on determining that the first data collector is non-operational or on a statistical analysis involving at least two additional data values received from at least two respective data collectors. The computing device may identify and request data from the remote source.
