A crossbar (6, fig.1) for a vehicle roof rack (1) is provided. The crossbar comprises a crossbar body 24 and a locking mechanism 8 for releasably securing one end of the crossbar body to a sidebar of the vehicle roof rack. The locking mechanism comprises a two-part housing 30, 32 fixedly secured to the crossbar body 24 by screws 28. A lever arm 34 10 is rotatably mounted on the housing and is rotatable between a first position and a second position. A cam member moves the lever arm 34 in a linear direction relative to the housing as the lever arm 34 is rotated from the first position towards the second position. A locking member 36 is receivable in a substantially U-shaped locking channel of the sidebar in use and is slidably mounted. The locking member 36 moves 15 between an unlocked position and a locked position. In the locked position the locking member 36 is engaged with the locking channel of the sidebar to secure the crossbar to the sidebar.
