The movement of an electric vehicle 1 (e.g. EV, HEV, PHEV, hybrid vehicle, etc.) is controlled to align the vehicle with a wireless charging device 3 which permits non-contact, inductive charging of the vehicle. Image data is obtained via an image obtaining means 5 (e.g. a camera) of a region that is proximate the vehicle and within which the charging device 3 is situated. The image data is searched for one or more predetermined optical characteristics of the wireless charging device 3 to identify its location. A vehicle path between a present location of the vehicle 1 and the identified location of the wireless charging device 3 is determined and movement of the vehicle 1 is controlled based on the determined vehicle path. The movement control may include control of steering and/or longitudinal movement of the vehicle 1. The vehicle path itself may comprise one or more arcuate segments. In the event that a vehicle path cannot be determined, a suggested vehicle path between a suggested starting position, which is remote from the present location, and the identified location of the charging device 3 is determined, wherein an indication of the suggested starting position is displayed.
