Indicating potential hazards i.e. emergency vehicle, bicycle, pedestrian to a motor vehicle 104 wherein; a hazard 204 is detected, the direction of the hazard relative to the motor vehicle is calculated, an alert is generated by a plurality of speakers 120 located inside the vehicle and surrounding the driver 102 where the sound is emitted by one or more speakers in substantially the same direction as the hazard. The hazard may be tracked and the corresponding speaker (s) 220a adjusted to reflect the motion of the hazard. Furthermore, the warning sound may be increased or decreased in volume to reflect the distance between vehicle and the hazard. The warning sound may be a predetermined sound associated with the hazard. Additionally, the warning sound frequency may be varied to simulate Doppler effect. The hazard may be detected by sensors including optical, radar and laser sensors, a vehicle to vehicle communication system or by communication with a server.
