A means of determining an estimated barometric pressure 308 by using a vehicle altitude 302, external temperature 304 and a determined external relative humidity 306; the estimated barometric pressure being used to adjust a vehicle tyre pressure measurement 310 to obtain a corrected tyre pressure measurement, where the corrected tyre pressure is evaluated to determine when an alert should be presented to a user; when the alert is determined, the alert to the user is presented to the user 312. The altitude may be received from a global positioning satellite (GPS) system. The measured tyre pressure may be received from a message from a tyre pressure monitoring (TPMS) system. The corrected tyre pressure may be determined using the barometric formula.
