A device for controlling the pitch of fan blades in a turbine engine 2 (fig 1) having an unducted or open blade fan. The device comprising at least one set of adjustable pitch fan or propeller blades 26 each fan blade being coupled, for pitch adjustment purposes, to a radial control shaft 48 constrained to rotate with the set of fan blades and suitable for pivoting about a radial pitch axis Z-Z of said fan blade. The device comprises a stationary actuator 34 centred on a longitudinal axis X-X of the turbine engine and driving an outer ring 44 of a load transfer bearing 40 in translation, said outer ring of the load transfer bearing being coupled directly to a lever arm 50 of each control shaft via a respective ball joint connection 52 in order to adjust its pivoting. The ball joint may be sliding and co-operate with a radial finger 54. The control shaft may comprise a lever arm 50 (fig 5) with a sliding ball joint 52 (fig 5) that co-operates with a finger 54 (fig 5) extending from the outer ring 44 (fig 5).
