An aerofoil device to aid clearing of a surface 14 such as a vehicle mirror, the device 10 comprising a first primary arcuate member 20 having an outer curved face 32 and an inner curved face 30, wherein the first primary arcuate member is positionable a spaced-apart distance from a clearable surface so as define a first air path over the outer curved face and a second air path over the inner curved face. A second primary arcuate member (54 figure 6) can be provided the first and second primary arcuate members (52, 54) positionable on opposing sides of the clearable surface. In use the interaction of air paths associated with the arcuate members produces a laminar air sheet to clear the clearable surface. There may be apertures (42 figure 2) which emit jets of fluid or gas to assist clearing. The device utilises the Coanda effect in order to direct airflows. Other devices to which the device could be applied include vehicle windows, windscreens, helmets, camera lenses, imaging screens and windows in multi-storey buildings.
