A cable puller that mounts directly to the end flange of a conduit or cable guide 10, e.g. J-tube or I-tube. The cable puller may comprise two hauling mechanisms on a single unit, firstly to pull-in rope 9 using a winch or capstan barrel 2, and secondly to pull cable via a tracked motor 3. The tracks design is arranged to provide a consistent and continuous clamping force whilst in contact with the cable. Additionally the cable puller is configured to operate offshore, e.g. for recovering subsea cables, and in potentially explosive atmospheres.
