An adaptable load floor assembly 2 for a vehicle storage compartment (10, Fig. 1) of a vehicle (1, Fig. 6) and a control system 8 for controlling the load floor assembly 2, the vehicle (1, Fig. 6) including a storage compartment (10, Fig. 1) with a load floor 20, a rear opening (11, Fig. 1), a door 12 for selectively closing the opening (11, Fig. 1) and a platform 3 hinged to the load floor 20 and located within the storage compartment (10, Fig. 1) when the door 12 is closed. In use and when the door 12 is open, the platform 3 is pivotable from a retracted position in which the platform 3 partially obstructs the opening (11, Fig. 1) and a deployed position in which the platform 3 extends out of the opening (11, Fig. 1) to provide an extension to the load floor 20. The platform 3 may be operated automatically by an actuator 5 and the free end of the platform 3 may be supported by a tether 6. The vehicle (1, Fig. 6) includes a control unit 8 for controlling the movement of the platform 3 in accordance with safety criteria to avoid damage.
