A bonnet displacement mechanism 10 for coupling a bonnet panel 14 to a vehicle body structure comprising a hinge mechanism for elevating a bonnet panel rear edge 24 from a normal to a deployed position; lowering said edge from the deployed to a latched position; further comprising a latch mechanism to latch the hinge mechanism at the latched position. Preferably the bonnet displacement mechanism comprises a stud 52 and a complimentary guide 56 to control the bonnet panel trajectory, the stud is moveable and the guide is stationary relative to the bonnet panel, the latch mechanism comprises a resilient arm 60 with an opening 64 forming a catch, and the stud forms a latch to secure the latched position, mechanism 10 further comprises a weakened member, which can be elongate, diamond-shaped, V-shaped, or have U-shaped seat 74 for receiving the stud and plastically deforming in response to bonnet deployment.
