A vehicle (100 see fig 1) includes a fascia (105 see fig 1), a sensor array 110 disposed on the fascia (105), and a processing device 125. The sensor array 110 has a plurality of ultrasonic sensors 115, each configured to output a sensor signal. The processing device 125 is configured to process the sensor signals and control operation of the sensor array to generate a three dimensional image of an object near the vehicle based at least in part on the sensor signals. The sensors 115 are pulsed individually. Control enables a beam of the sensor array 110 to sweep through a plurality of refracted angles. The invention may enable an occupant to see a representation of a three dimensional object in front or behind the vehicle.
