Optimal use of the alternating-current machine can be achieved if a group of several different control strategies is provided, preferably stored in the motor controller, at least one operating parameter of the alternating-current machine and/or of the electric vehicle and/or external specifications, preferably regarding power and/or duration and/or range, are detected, a control strategy is selected from the group of control strategies in dependence on at least one detected operating parameter of the alternating-current machine and/or of the electric vehicle and/or external specifications, and the alternating-current machine is operated on the basis of said selected control strategy.
