Improved vehicle emergency lighting control is implemented in a vehicle computer of a first vehicle 101. Data is collected related to a pursuit of a second vehicle 120. The collected data is used to determine at least one of an action of the first vehicle and an action of the second vehicle. An emergency light in the first vehicle is controlled based on the at least one determined action. The rear facing emergency light in the first vehicle, which ordinarily shows emergency flashing lights, is instead altered to indicate to a third vehicle 125 in the pursuit an action of the first or second vehicle. For example, the emergency light may show that the first (figure 2) or second vehicle is braking, or that the first or second vehicle (figure 4) is turning. The activation of a pursuit switch by an occupant of the first vehicle may first be detected by the computer. The data may be collected by means of ultrasonic image, radar, lidar, GPS and infrared. The emergency vehicle may be a police car, ambulance, fire truck etc.
