A means for parking space management comprising the steps of; receiving a request (220, fig 2) for a parking space from a requesting vehicle 101 and receiving data (205, fig 2) from at least one data-collecting vehicle 101 related to at least one parking space. Based at least in part on the received data (205, fig 2), a parking availability map 131 is generated indicating a parking space appropriate for the requesting vehicle 101. In the event that the parking space is occupied by an unauthorized vehicle 102, a message is provided to a parking enforcement authority (250, fig 2) advising that the parking space is occupied by an unauthorized vehicle 102. The appropriateness of the requested parking space may be calculated with consideration to the requesting vehicles size or to the cost of the parking space.
