A dumper is provided with a demountable skip 3 and a blade assembly 10 that is movably mounted on a vertical mast 11 which is rigidly secured to the vehicle 2. A first ram is connected between the vehicle and the blade assembly. The skip comprises a guide arrangement 14 beneath the container (Figure 6, 12) with which the blade assembly interacts. The first ram raises or lowers the blade assembly and any skip mounted thereon. Preferably, the blade assembly comprises a platform (Figure 4, 21) that is pivotally mounted thereto about a pivot axis (Figure 6, 22) and with which the guide arrangement interacts. A second ram (Figure 4, 19) is connected between the blade assembly and the platform and operates to rotate the platform about its pivot axis to tip the skip. Advantageously, the skip is secured to the platform via at least one rod having a longitudinal axis coincident with the pivot axis around which the platform rotates relative to the rest of the blade assembly.
