A bicycle comprises wheels, a frame assembly supported on the wheels and including a mounting portion 95 defining a mounting axis 100, and a lighting system mounted on the mounting portion. The lighting system includes a power source 230 and a lighting element 195 having a lighting axis 340 that is substantially parallel to the mounting axis 100. Preferably, the mounting axis 100 is at an angle of 70-75 degrees relative to horizontal. The lighting system can further include a primary electronic board 240 positioned substantially parallel to the mounting axis 100 and a secondary electronic board 360 positioned substantially perpendicular to the mounting axis 100. The lighting element 195 is mounted on the secondary electronic board 360. The power source 230 is preferably positioned between the primary electronic board 240 and the mounting portion 95. The lighting system can further comprise a reflector positioned to receive light from the lighting element 195 and direct a majority 382 of the light in a substantially horizontal direction. The lighting element 195 may be an LED, and the mounting portion 95 may be a seat post.
