Locating the berth location of a vessel 101/600 through: receiving co-ordinates of the vessel associated with a vessel identifier; obtaining data relating to the vessel identifier and; determining whether the vessel is berthed at one of a multiple known moorings based on the vessel data and coordinates. The vessel data is preferably the length or speed of the vessel. The location co-ordinates, vessel identifier and vessel information may be obtained from the vessel. There may be a vessel location aggregator 106. The vessel is preferably only considered docked if the velocity of the vessel is less than a threshold value. The berth location of the vessel may be picked based on the closest known berth to the received location - 602, or any berth within a boat length (radius) 605 of the location of the vessel 603/604. Berth information may also be provided and the obtained vessel length may be increased if it is a floating berth.
