Control system for a vehicle comprising an imager and one or more types of charge inlet (103a, 103b, Fig.1), the control system configured to: determine from an image the charge connector type (Fig.3) of an electric vehicle charger (807, Fig.8); determine if the charge connector corresponds to one of the vehicle’s charge inlets; and if charge connector is compatible, outputting a control signal (810, Fig.8). Distance between the charger and the vehicle may be determined, by satellite navigation (GPS) signals 402 and image analysis (404, Fig.8), before the control system attempts to determine the charger connector type (807, Fig.8). The system may detect one or more characteristics of an exterior of the electric vehicle charger to determine the connector type. Defined pile characteristics may be character strings, QR codes 1103 or the like adjacent to a charger docking point 1101. If the charger is determined as compatible, the control system may determine if the charger is available i.e. not already in use or out of order (809, Fig.8; 94, Fig.9; 1101, Fig.10). The control signal may open a flap that reveals the vehicle’s charging port corresponding to the detected connector type, or display a prompt for the vehicle user.
