An outboard propulsion system for attachment to a boat, the outboard propulsion system comprising: a first portion comprising an engine; and a second portion attached to the first portion and comprising a propeller shaft that is operably connected to the engine, wherein the first portion is covered, at least partially, by a plurality of removable panels, wherein at least one removable panel is a service hatch that is moveable between a closed position configured to prevent access to the first portion and an open position configured to provide access to the first portion, wherein the service hatch is located such that, in use, and in its open position, the service hatch provides access to the first portion from within the boat, and wherein each removable panel is predominantly planar.
