A heated towel rail comprises two opposed manifolds and at least one tubular rail 4 between the manifolds. Mechanical couplings 2 are provided to provide fluid communication between the manifolds via the rail(s). Each coupling comprises a manifold port 10, an end portion 4a of a tubular rail and an intermediate coupling element 6. The intermediate coupling element includes a tube portion (ideally including internal threading) that threadedly couples to the end portion of the rail, and a manifold portion 18 (ideally having a frustoconical surface 16) to couple to the manifold port (ideally via abutment with a complimentary frustoconical surface 30 of the manifold port). A locking element 8 having an internal thread 24 may be provided to secure the intermediate coupling element to the manifold by screwing the locking element to an external thread 32 of the manifold port so that a skirt 28 of the locking element presses against a flange 14 of the intermediate coupling element. First 20 and second o-ring seals may be provided between the manifold portion and the manifold port and between the tube portion and the tubular rail, respectively.
