A method of controlling an autonomous vehicle 100, comprising: receiving sensor 121-123 information corresponding to an object 193-192 proximate the vehicle (1501, 1502, Fig.15); determining an activity prediction for the at object (1503, Fig.15); classifying the object in accordance with the activity prediction (1504, Fig.15); and controlling functions of the vehicle based on the classification of the object (1505, Fig.15). Weighted attributes of an object may be detected, the attributes comprising: a road lane of the object, distance to a traffic sign, distance to a parking space or object speed. Classifying the object may include determining the likelihood that the object will be inactive (stationary) or active (moving) in a predetermined time interval and generate an uncertainty in the classification. The control functions of the vehicle may comprise controlling a movement of the vehicle such as: changing speed; overtaking obstacles (Fig.14) and/or slowing down when the uncertainty is meets a threshold.
