Determining a safety risk level of a driver of a vehicle comprises: sensing 110, by a vital sensor, at least one physiological signal of the vehicle driver and providing a first output signal indicative of the health condition of the driver to a vehicle electronic control device; determining 112, by the vehicle electronic control device, a health abnormality of the driver based on the first output signal; assigning 114, by the vehicle electronic control device, an abnormality score to the determined health abnormality based on an assessing of an effect the health abnormality has on the driver's nervous system; providing 116 to the vehicle electronic control device at least one second output signal from a vehicle sensor system indicative of at least one of a driver state, a driving behaviour, an environment state, or a behavioural health of the driver; determining 118, by the vehicle electronic control device, a risk score based on the at least one second output signal; and determining 120, by the vehicle electronic control device, the safety risk level based on the abnormality score and the risk score.
