A device 99, suitable for protecting a vehicle's paintwork, comprising a bumper 3 and means 33 for connecting the bumper 3 to a vehicle. The bumper 3 comprises at least three bodies 4, each with outer surfaces; resiliently-deformable inners with longitudinally-extending bore holes through their centre; and a protective collar 14 at each ends. The vehicle attachment means 33 comprises an elongate member 6, such as a length-adjustable or elastic strap, extending through the bores, thereby enabling the bodies 4 to be arranged linearly; and anchors, including a hook 7, located on their ends, for attachment to a vehicle. One of the anchors may comprise a clip 12 with a sprung gate; or a loop 9. The anchors 14 provided on the end of the bodies 4 may be internally and externally chamfered to prevent abrasion damage to the elongate member 6.
