Dredging a waterbed, such as a harbour floor 340, by suspending a dredging apparatus 200 from a vehicle 360 such that it is above and not in contact with the waterbed, agitating a sediment 350, extracting the sediment as the apparatus is moved and depositing extracted sediment at a higher under water location 400, such that it is transported by natural water movement. The dredging apparatus comprises a sediment agitating apparatus with fluid injector and pump mounted on the chassis, an extractor with conduit (fig.1, 120) and pump mounted on the chassis, and a vehicle connector. The conduit may be frustoconical (fig.2b, 240). The apparatus may comprise a debris deflecting pilot (fig.2a, 260), a swell compensator, shock absorbers and an open framed chassis. By suspending the dredger apparatus such that it operates above the waterbed, debris can be avoided, and rough terrain can be traversed.
