An aircraft engine generator disconnect device comprises a drive transfer means, such as dog clutch (380, fig 3) having a connected configuration and a disconnected configuration. The clutch (380) is connected to a piston 115 of a pneumatically actuated disconnect mechanism 110 which is connected to a gas storage means 120 via a pipe 130 and gas release means 140 having a puncture device 145 that when activated punctures, for example, frangible portion 123. When a generator malfunction occurs an actuation plunger (260) is released and strikes the puncture device 145 thereby perforating the frangible portion 123 which releases gas, e.g. nitrogen, from the gas storage means 120 causing the piston 115 to move the clutch (380) to the disconnected configuration so that a generator input shaft (387) is no longer connected to a generator rotor (390). The actuation plunger (260) is spring loaded and together with the puncture device 145 form a stored potential energy device held in a primed condition by a trigger (270) comprising an electromagnetic device or a spring assisted lever.
