An interface (100, fig 5) on a trailer (1, fig 1) couples hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical supplies from a towing vehicle to the trailer, and includes a pressure gauge 30 to indicate pressure available for emergency braking from an accumulator 15 when a breakaway valve 22 lever is opened by a linking wire cable or chain (21, fig 5). The gauge 30 also indicates hydraulic pressure available from a towing vehicle. An in-line check valve 16 allows charging of oil to the accumulator 15 when the vehicle brakes. The system is tested by manually disconnecting a vehicle hydraulic line 20 from the interface, manually opening the breakaway valve 22, and checking that the oil pressure is above a threshold.
