Swimming or diving goggles comprise a main body (3, fig. 2), a head strap (1, fig. 2), and a head strap coupling portion 31. An attachment portion 12 is formed adjacent an end 11 of the head strap. A buckle 2 includes two sidewalls 21 defining a space. An eccentric axle 24 engages with the attachment portion. Front and rear posts 25, 26 extend between the sidewalls 21 and define a passage 28. In use the end of the head strap 11 extends through the passage 28, and is wound around coupling portion 31 to form a bend. The head strap 1 then has an inner section 15 and an outer section 14. The head strap and the buckle 2 are jointly movable. A tightening force acting on the inner section 15 makes the inner section form a bend in the passage 28. The inner section 15 presses against the front post and the rear post to hold the head strap 1 in position. To adjust the goggles the holding portion 13 is pulled (fig. 4), and the buckle rotates to allow the strap to pass freely between the posts 25 and 26.
