The invention concerns a method of modifying an epoxidised natural rubber that helps improve grafting performance. The method comprises: - reacting an epoxidised natural rubber with a system consisting of - a carboxylic acid of general formula (I) in which R represents a group likely to interact with a reinforcing filler and - an imidazole of general formula (II) in which, - R1 represents a hydrocarbon group or a hydrogen atom, - R2 represents a hydrocarbon group, R3 and R4 represent, independent of each other, a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group, or indeed R3 and R4 form a ring together with the carbon atoms of the imidazole ring to which they bond, - then curing at a temperature greater than 120°C.
