The vehicle has a battery connected with an electric motor or a generator. An engine/battery management system allows charging of the battery. An electronic route planning system receives data of a planned route or multiple planned routes of a vehicle. The management system is connected with the planning system and utilizes the data of the planned routes. The management system determines a location, a point of time around the location and a point of time for charging and discharging the location in the route such that the battery is completely charged up to a desired minimum level.
