A composite support beam (122) may be hollow, where the composite support beam includes an external fiber-reinforced polymer-matrix shell (200) and one or more pultruded fiber-reinforced polymer-matrix composite parts. One or more walls of the external shell (200) may define an internal cavity. The one or more pultruded parts may be arranged within the internal cavity defined by the one or more walls of the external shell (200). The one or more pultruded parts may be formed by a plurality of unidirectionally reinforced composites positioned in an axial direction of a respective hollow composite support beam. In some instances, the composite support beam may include an internal fiber-reinforced polymer-matrix shell (202).
