A method for operating a hybrid vehicle comprising an internal combustion engine (201), an electric machine (202), and an exhaust aftertreatment system (100), comprising:predicting an upcoming power demand for propulsion of the vehicle during a prediction time horizon comprising at least a first time interval,determining whether at least one predetermined condition is fulfilled, the at least one predetermined condition comprising a first condition which is fulfilled when the electric machine is expected to be able to provide sufficient output power to satisfy the predicted power demand during the first time interval without using the internal combustion engine,during the first time interval, in response to determining that the at least one predetermined condition is fulfilled, controlling the electric machine to propel the vehicle, and controlling the internal combustion engine to achieve a target condition for conditioning of the exhaust aftertreatment system.
