A satellite 100 having a radar antenna array 160 formed as a generally planar structure comprising a plurality of panels. Each panel comprises a plurality of antenna transmit/receive modules with each antenna transmit/receive module comprises a stack of planar elements comprising an RF board, an antenna board, and one or more heat sink components for conducting heat from the RF board. Each RF board comprises a plurality of RF front ends. The stack may additionally comprise a power board. The antenna array preferably being an active phased array synthetic aperture radar antenna. Each RF front end may include a power amplifier, a transmit/receiver switch, a low noise amplifier and digital phase shifters in both transmit and receive directions. The satellite preferably comprising solar panels 155 arranged to be folded for launch and deployable by pivoting with respect to each other into a plane.
