The present invention relates to rubber compositions exhibiting improved rolling resistance and improved grip on wet ground. These compositions are based on at least one elastomer matrix comprising at least one copolymer containing ethylene units and 1,3-diene units, the molar fraction of the ethylene units in the copolymer being within a range extending from more than 50% to 95%, the copolymer not containing any 1,3-diene units of formula CH2=CR-CH=CH2, wherein the symbol R represents a hydrocarbon chain containing 3 to 20 carbon atoms; a polar liquid plasticizer having a Tg of less than -80°C; at least 30 phr of silica; at least one agent for coupling the silica to a diene elastomer; and a crosslinking system. The invention also relates to rubber articles comprising a composition according to the invention, in particular pneumatic or nonpneumatic tyres, the tread of which comprises a composition according to the invention.
