The invention relates to a method for estimating the storage capacity of a cell storing electrical energy, the cell having a state of charge and a charge, and being provided with a battery cell unit of a system. Said method comprises a step (10-70) of determining, when the cell is in use, whether conditions relating to the state of charge and to the temperature of the battery cell unit are satisfactory, and, if so, subsequently determining, at M successive times, M pairs each comprising first and second variations of the state of charge and of the charge between two successive times, respectively, and subsequently selecting, from among the determined pairs, those pairs which comprise first and second variations satisfying first and second criteria, respectively, and subsequently supplying a parametric estimator with the selected pairs in order to obtain an estimate of the storage capacity.
