The invention relates to a method for detecting objects on a road surface. The method has a step of projecting (350) an object onto the road surface by means of a projection device (11) of a vehicle, said object projected onto the road surface having a defined structure. The method (300) additionally has the steps of capturing (400) a field of view (200) using at least one vehicle camera (20) in order to generate a series of captured camera images, said field of view (200) at least partly capturing the object projected onto the road surface, and analyzing (500) the series of captured camera images on the basis of at least one object-specific property, wherein the at least one object-specific property comprises a structural property of objects such that the object projected by the projection device (11) of the vehicle (1) can be differentiated from other objects captured by the at least one vehicle camera (20) using the defined structure of the projected object. The invention additionally relates to a device (10) for detecting objects on a road surface.
