A disconnection device includes a shaft (136) disposed within a housing (102) and a base portion (120) coupled to the housing. The base portion (120) of the disconnection device, responsive to a force, laterally translates in relation to the housing when the force exceeds a predetermined threshold. The lateral translation of the base portion (120) causes the shaft assembly to disengage a drive shaft (116).
