Provided is a door opening and closing mechanism that can be easily installed in an aircraft lavatory unit of an existing aircraft and is advantageous in preventing the transmission of novel coronavirus in the interior. A powered door opening mechanism (34) configured to move a door (20) from the closed position to the open position is provided. The powered door opening mechanism (34) includes a non-contact sensor (36) provided inside and outside the lavatory (1002) and configured to detect part of a human body, an engaged member (40) provided in the door (20) and extending to an upper side of the door (20), an engaging member (42) provided at a section on the upper side of the door (20) inside the lavatory (1002), engageable with the engaged member (40) from a side of the door (20) from the closed position of the door (20) to the open position of the door (20), and having a shape that is open in a direction away from the door (20), and an actuator (44) configured to move the engaging member (42) in a direction away from the entrance (1212) in response to a detection signal from the non-contact sensor (36) and move the door (20) from the closed position to the open position through the engaged member (40).
