The invention also relates to a method for actively damping a Flettner rotor system, wherein an imbalance and/or a vibration and/or a deformation of a rotating cylinder (1) of the Flettner rotor system is captured and, on the basis of this, controllable force-applying means (3) that are in engagement with the rotating cylinder (1) are activated, wherein the controllable force-applying means (3) generate forces in the rotating cylinder (1) which counteract the imbalance and/or the vibration and/or the deformation.
