The invention relates to a magnetorheological braking device (1) for braking rotational movements, comprising an axle unit (2) and a rotational body (3) which is rotatable about the axle unit (2), wherein the rotatability of the rotational body (3) can be braked in a controlled way by means of a magnetorheological braking apparatus (4) having a coil unit (24). A holding space (13) provided with a magnetorheological medium (34) is formed between the axle unit (2) and the rotational body (3), the magnetorheological medium (34) comprising magnetorheological particles and gas as a filling medium. By means of a sealing apparatus (7) having a sealing unit (37), the holding space (13) with the magnetorheological medium (34) is sealed contactlessly between the parts which move relative to each other.
