Proposed is a charging station for charging and/or discharging an energy store of an electric vehicle with/of electric energy by means of a polyphase supply system that can be coupled to the charging station, the charging station comprising: an AC-to-DC converter which can be coupled to a number of phases of the supply system; a DC link which is connected downstream of the AC-to-DC converter; and a bidirectional DC-to-DC converter, which is connected downstream of the DC link, for converting a DC link input voltage into an output voltage, and vice versa, said DC-to-DC converter comprising a series circuit consisting of two half bridges with four semiconductor switches, each half bridge being connected between a DC link voltage bus having a DC link voltage on the input side and a medium-voltage bus having a symmetrical, in particular ground-symmetrical intermediate voltage, each center tap of the half bridge cooperating with a storage choke and a storage capacitor such that two bidirectional synchronous converters are connected in series, at least one snubber capacitor being connected to the center tap of each half bridge.
