The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling indicators (10, 11, 12) of a human-machine interface (1), referred to as an HMI, to be displayed on at least one screen of a vehicle. A request comprising a first item of information at least partially identifying the vehicle and a second item of information identifying the indicators to be controlled is received by a device. The first item of information and the second item of information are used by the device to identify, in a memory, a particular configuration for displaying the indicators. This configuration is sent to a computer that generates data of a video stream comprising the portion of the HMI (1) comprising the indicators in accordance with the received configuration to display the HMI. These data are associated with an item of control information that is sent to the device, which compares this item of control information with an item of reference control information in order to determine whether the indicators are properly displayed.
