A cold plate (24) is positioned proximate to the rotor (12), is rotationally stationary relative to the central axis (14) and is spaced apart from the rotor (12) to define a cold plate gap (28) between the cold plate (24) and the rotor (12). Thermal energy from the rotor (12) is transferred to a flow of coolant (36) circulated through one or more coolant pathways (34) in the cold plate (24).
