An aircraft system (24) includes an aircraft fuselage (26), a first propulsor (36A), a first drivetrain (40A), a second propulsor (36B), a second drivetrain (40B) and an intermittent combustion engine (66). The first propulsor (36A) is outside of the aircraft fuselage (26). The first propulsor (36A) includes a first propulsor rotor (42A) and a first vane array (44A). The first drivetrain (40A) is coupled to the first propulsor rotor (42A). The second propulsor (36B) is outside of the aircraft fuselage (26). The second propulsor (36B) includes a second propulsor rotor (42B) and a second vane array (44B). The second drivetrain (40B) is coupled to the second propulsor rotor (42B). The intermittent combustion engine (66) is within the aircraft fuselage (26). The intermittent combustion engine (66) is configured to drive rotation of the first propulsor rotor (42A), independent of the second propulsor rotor (42B), through the first drivetrain (40A). The intermittent combustion engine (66) is configured to drive rotation of the second propulsor rotor (42B), independent of the first propulsor rotor (42A), through the second drivetrain.
