A method for controlling a battery of a vehicle comprising: - the battery (BR1); - a means for measuring and monitoring a temperature of the battery (BR1); - a cooling means (E1) for cooling the battery BR1; this method executing: - a first step of controlling the cooling means (E1) by regulating to a setpoint temperature for the battery (BR1) when the temperature of the battery (BR1) is below a first upper threshold; - a second step of actuating the cooling means (E1) to a maximum when this temperature exceeds the first upper threshold and when the temperature exceeds a second upper threshold strictly higher than the first upper threshold; the method further executes a third step that simultaneously: - limits the power output by the first battery (BR1); and - keeps the cooling means (E1) operating at its maximum cooling capacity.
