A pressurization system (20) for a vehicle includes an inlet (22) for receiving a medium (A) and a cabin air compressing device (24a, 24b) arranged in fluid communication with the inlet (22). The cabin air compressing device (24a, 24b) includes a shaft (30a, 30b), a compressor (26a, 26b) connected to the shaft (30a, 30b), a motor (36a, 36b) operably connected to the shaft (30a, 30b) and configured to drive the compressor (26a, 26b), and a turbine (28a, 28b) connected to the shaft (30a, 30b) and also configured to drive the compressor (26a, 26b) upon receipt of the medium (A). A heat exchanger (38) has a first inlet (42) fluidly connected to the compressor outlet (40) and a second inlet (46) fluidly connected to the turbine outlet. The compressor inlet (32) and the turbine inlet (34) are fluidly connected to and are arranged in parallel relative to the inlet (22).
