The present disclosure belongs to the field of gas detection, and particularly, to the field of gas detecting inside an enclosed space (2.1) of an aircraft system (1) on board in an aircraft (7). In particular, the disclosure provides an aircraft system (1) and a method for determining the presence of a gas inside an aircraft system (1) by means of a detection system (3) installed on the aircraft system (1)2.1), the detection system (3) comprising: a radiation source (3.1) arranged outside the enclosed space (2.1) and configured to emit an electromagnetic radiation into the enclosed space (2.1), and a radiation detector (3.2) arranged outside the enclosed space (2.1) and configured to receive electromagnetic radiation from the enclosed space (2.1). Possible non-limiting applications of the present disclosure are monitoring and/or detection of vacuum leak or of fire inside an aircraft system (1) arranged in an aircraft (7).
