A sealant composition for use with self-sealing tires is disclosed. The sealant composition comprises (a) the reaction product of polyisobutylene and a silane having no unsaturation and (b) a reinforcing filler. Also, a tire (2, 10) and a method of manufacturing such a tire (2, 10) is disclosed comprising this sealant composition in a sealant layer (7, 17). Furthermore, a method for reacting a silane having no unsaturation with polyisobutylene to make a reaction product of the polyisobutylene and the silane is disclosed. The method comprises reacting the polyisobutylene and the silane in the presence of a peroxide at an elevated temperature which is sufficient to cause the peroxide to break down thereby creating free radicals. Preferably, the silane has no unsaturation and has been first pre-reacted with a silicate filler.
