An electromechanical brake actuator (2) for a rail vehicle, the brake actuator comprising a motor (3) configured to move a brake component by being accelerated and decelerated in order to initiate and stop braking of the rail vehicle and to function as a generator while being decelerated, a power supply connector (4) configured to supply electrical components of the brake actuator (2) with electrical energy from outside of the brake actuator (2), an internal energy storage device (5) connectable to the motor (3), and a switching device (6) configured to enable and to disable the power supply from the outside of the brake actuator (2).
